How to connect with MCP in ChatGPT
Connect ChatGPT to your DashThis account with MCP so you can ask about your dashboards without leaving the chat.
This guide shows you how to connect ChatGPT to your DashThis account using the MCP Connector. Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT about your dashboards and it answers using your live reporting data.
Before you start
- The connector must be set up through the ChatGPT web app.
- Adding a custom connector requires a ChatGPT plan that includes connector support. If you’re using a Team, Business, or Enterprise workspace, a workspace admin must create the new plugin before it can be used.
- You sign in with your usual DashThis credentials during setup.
Connect ChatGPT to DashThis
- Enable developer mode: In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode
- Go to ChatGPT Plugins
- Select the plus button and create a New Plugin
- Enter the plugin details:
- Name: DashThis
- URL (Connection): https://mcp.dashthis.com
- Authentication: OAuth
- Authorize the connection. You are redirected to DashThis to sign in and approve access.
- Start asking about your dashboards, for example “List my DashThis dashboards” or “What were my clicks last month on the Google Ads dashboard?”
What ChatGPT can see
ChatGPT can only read the dashboards on the DashThis account you connected, and the connection is read-only, so it cannot change anything in DashThis. For the full list of what the connector can and cannot do, see MCP notes and limitations.
ChatGPT says not all permissions were granted
If ChatGPT tells you that not all requested permissions were granted, or the DashThis tools never appear in your conversation, the connection was approved with incomplete permissions.
Delete the DashThis plugin in ChatGPT, then follow the steps above to create it and approve access again. Your dashboards and your data are never affected, so you lose nothing by reconnecting.
