# What you can do with the MCP Connector

## Once your AI assistant is connected to DashThis, it can answer questions about your results, write your client recaps, and build or update dashboards for you.

Here are the things people use it for most, with a few examples you can copy into your chat. Tip: add "in DashThis" to your question so your assistant knows where to look.

### Get answers about your results

Ask the way you'd ask a coworker. Your assistant pulls the numbers straight from your dashboards, for the period you want, and can compare them to the previous period or to last year.

- *"How many sessions did we get last month on the SEO dashboard in DashThis?"*
- *"How are my Google Ads conversions this quarter compared to the same quarter last year in DashThis?"*
- *"Do any of my dashboards in DashThis have a source error?"*

### Get your client recap ready

Before a meeting or a monthly report, let your assistant write the first draft. It looks at the numbers and at the comments you've already written, then tells you what changed and what's worth pointing out.

- *"Give me a quick September recap of my \[client name\] dashboard in DashThis that I can send to the client."*
- *"I'm meeting \[client name\] tomorrow. What should I bring up? Use their dashboard in DashThis."*

### Put the recap right on your dashboard

Happy with the recap? Your assistant can drop it in a comment box on your dashboard, so your client sees the story next to the numbers. If there's already a comment there, it checks with you before replacing it. - *"Write a September recap for my \[client name\] SEO dashboard in DashThis and add it to the comment box."*

### Send the report as a PDF

Need to send the report itself? Your assistant can turn a dashboard into a PDF and give you a link. The link expires after an hour, so download the file if you want to keep it. The PDF shows the dashboard's own period.

- *"Make me a PDF of my \[client name\] dashboard in DashThis."*

### Build a new dashboard

Tell your assistant what you need and who it's for. It shows you a proposal first, and nothing gets created until you say yes. See [How to create a dashboard with your AI assistant](https://help.dashthis.com/how-to-create-a-dashboard-with-mcp-new?hsLang=en).

- *"I just signed a new client. Build me a lead generation dashboard in DashThis with Google Ads and GA4."*

### Add more data

Your assistant can add one of your data sources to a dashboard. Got numbers from a platform DashThis doesn't connect to? It can turn those into a Custom Data Source too. Platform not connected yet? Your assistant gives you a link to connect it. You open it in your browser, sign in to DashThis if asked, then sign in to the platform or fill in its connection form there, never in the chat. Nothing is connected until you finish.

- *"Add the Meta Ads account for \[client name\] to their dashboard in DashThis."*
- *"Connect my LinkedIn Ads account to DashThis."*
- *"Here are this month's GoHighLevel numbers for Acme Corp. Save them in DashThis."*

### Update a dashboard you already have

No need to open the dashboard for small changes. Your assistant can:

- **Rename it or change the colors:** *"Rename my Acme dashboard in DashThis to Acme Monthly Report and use our blue theme."*
- **Switch to another account:** move widgets to another source on the same platform, like a new Google Ads account. *"My client has a new Google Ads account. Switch the widgets on their dashboard in DashThis to it."*
- **Tweak a widget:** other metrics, filters, title or chart type. *"Show cost per conversion instead of cost in the Google Ads table."*
- **Move things around:** *"Put the KPIs at the top and make the sessions chart wider."*
- **Add or copy widgets:** *"Copy the Meta Ads section from my \[client A\] dashboard to my \[client B\] dashboard."*
- **Give a widget its own period:** on dashboards with [flexible periods](https://help.dashthis.com/what-are-flexible-periods?hsLang=en). *"Make the traffic chart show the last 30 days."*
- **Remove widgets:** *"Get rid of the Twitter widgets on my \[client name\] dashboard."*

Before it saves anything, your assistant tells you exactly what's going to change and waits for your OK.

### Good to know

- **Removed widgets are gone for good.** Your assistant only removes the widgets you name or agree to, and there's no undo in DashThis.
- **Nothing else gets deleted.** The connector never deletes a dashboard or a data source. Removing a widget doesn't free up a data source on your plan, though.
- **Some platforms still connect in DashThis.** Google Sheets, and connections made with a service key, are connected in DashThis, not through your assistant. A data source that is not on any of your dashboards yet takes one of your plan’s sources, and nothing is added if that would go over your plan’s limit.
- **Double-check your filters after switching accounts.** Filters and goals stay exactly as they were, so take a quick look at widgets that filter on a specific campaign or page.
- **Have the dashboard open in DashThis?** Refresh the page before you make your own changes. Otherwise, your next add, remove or drag could put the widgets back where they were.
- **Periodic dashboards only.** Your assistant can only update periodic dashboards.
- **Your assistant needs permission to make changes.** If you connected before comments came out, disconnect DashThis in your assistant, connect again, and approve "Create and change dashboards & data".
