What is OTR (Out of Tracked Range)?
When using Keyword.com data in DashThis, you may sometimes see OTR instead of a numeric rank. This article explains what OTR means, why it appears, and how Keyword.com’s tracking behaviour influences the values shown in your DashThis widgets.
-What does OTR mean?
OTR (Out of Tracked Range) indicates that Keyword.com successfully scraped the keyword, but its position was outside the ranking range included in your tracking setup.
Example:
-
Your Keyword.com scan tracks the Top 20
-
The keyword’s actual rank is #21 or higher
→ DashThis displays OTR
OTR does not mean the keyword is unranked. It simply means that its confirmed position is beyond the depth tracked for that day.
-OTR vs “>100”
These two values represent completely different situations.
OTR (Out of Tracked Range)
-
The keyword was scraped
-
It ranked outside your tracked range (example: #21–99 in a Top-20 scan)
-
DashThis displays: OTR
“>100”
-
Keyword was scraped with a Top-100 scan
-
It was not found at all in the first 100 results
-
Displayed in DashThis: >100
OTR = rank exists but is outside your tracking range
>100 = keyword not found in Top 100 results
-How OTR behaves with Keyword.com's MCR (Maintain Continuous Rank) setting?
Keyword.com offers a setting called Maintain Continuous Rank (MCR).
Although this can smooth data inside Keyword.com’s own interface, it does not change the values that Keyword.com sends to DashThis.
DashThis always displays the actual scraped data returned by Keyword.com.
When Keyword.com detects the keyword is out of range:
Regardless of whether MCR is ON or OFF:
-
DashThis shows OTR as the rank
-
Movement values (1-day, 7-day, etc.) display N/A
-
DashThis does not fill missing days or infer a rank that Keyword.com did not confirm
MCR affects Keyword.com’s internal display only, not the data transmitted to DashThis.
-Notes and limitations
-
OTR is determined entirely by Keyword.com’s tracking depth.
-
DashThis cannot display positions that Keyword.com did not include in its scrape.
-
Changes to Google’s scraping limitations may affect the number of results Keyword.com is able to retrieve.
