How is the source usage calculated?
In DashThis, a source is counted as used as soon as it is added to a dashboard. Even if no widget is currently using it, the source still counts as used as long as it remains in that dashboard.
When is a source counted?
A source is counted as used when:
-
It is added to at least one dashboard
As soon as a source is present in a dashboard, it becomes used — even if it isn’t linked to any widget yet.
When is a source NOT counted?
A source is not counted as used when:
-
It is connected to your account but not added to any dashboard
- It was previously added to a dashboard, but it has since been removed from all dashboards
Example
-
You connect a Google Analytics 4 property → not counted yet
-
You add that GA4 property to a dashboard → 1 source used
-
You don’t add any widget yet → still 1 source used (because it’s in the dashboard)
- You use the same source in multiple widgets or dashboards → still 1 source used
- You remove the source from all dashboards → not counted anymore
What happens if I reach my source limit?
If you reach the maximum number of sources included in your plan, you won’t be able to add new ones until you free up space or upgrade your plan.
Here’s what you can expect:
- An error message will appear when trying to add a new source
- The “Add source” section in your dashboard will appear greyed out
- You won’t be able to add any additional sources
To continue adding new sources, you have two options:
- Remove unused sources from your dashboards
- Upgrade your plan to include more sources
You can always track your current usage in your account to see how close you are to your limit.
Please note that the old Google Analytics Universal (UA) sources used in archived dashboards are not counted as data sources.
