This article highlights the recent updates Facebook/Meta has made to their Insights API to enhance user privacy and data anonymization. We're here to guide you through these changes and their impact on DashThis.
We are working diligently to provide you with alternative metrics and dimensions to help you achieve similar goals while minimizing the impact on your reporting. We'll keep this article updated as new developments arise. Please feel free to check back anytime.
For those interested in learning more about these changes directly from Facebook, we encourage you to read their official blog post here.
Metrics & Dimensions Impacted in DashThis
Reach Metrics by Demographic
While reach metrics alone are still available, combining them with demographic dimensions will now return an error. The affected dimensions include:
- Age
- Gender
- Age Gender
- City
- Country
- Language
The reach metrics affected are:
- Cumulative Total Page Reach
- Daily Total Page Reach
- Weekly Total Page Reach
- 28 Days Total Page Reach
Page Engagement & Engagement Rate Metrics
Facebook previously provided the "Page Engaged User" metric, which was useful for calculating engagement rates. While this metric is no longer available, Facebook now offers the "Page Post Engagement" metric, which effectively indicates a page's engagement levels over time.
We will automatically update your dashboards to utilize this new metric, and we will also use it to calculate the page engagement rate. You shouldn’t see significant changes in the numbers, but we wanted to keep you informed about this change.
Post Engagement & Engagement Rate Metrics
We’re pleased to share that, despite Facebook discontinuing the "Post engaged user" metric (which we relied on to calculate post engagement), we've developed a new solution. Our engineering team has created a new metric that combines post reactions, comments, shares, and clicks to measure overall engagement. This approach not only lets us track total engagement but also calculate the post’s engagement rate. It has been a top priority for us, and we're excited to announce that it's now available.
Page Reach (Organic)
While "Page Organic reach" has been deprecated, overall reach metrics are still available. We recommend using one of these metrics instead.
Page Impressions (Organic)
The Page Impressions (Organic) metric has been deprecated. However, the Page Impressions metric is still available. Additionally, it is still possible to use the "Post Organic Impressions" metric in a widget with dimensions to get results by post.
Action Button Clicks
Action button clicks are no longer supported, but "Page Total Actions" provides similar results. Facebook describes this as "The number of clicks on your Page's contact info and call-to-action button." We'll automatically migrate affected widgets to this metric, but feel free to choose another available metric if you prefer.
Negative feedback metrics
Page & post’s “negative feedback” metrics are also deprecated.
Checkins
Unfortunately “check-ins” related metrics are not available anymore.
